Over the past year we have seen a huge growth in SME activity through Social Media and the use of Hashtags, unfortunately not all positive either..
A hashtag is a word or a phrase prefixed with the symbol # – This is a form of meta-tag (the way Google and other search facilities read information) and are used highly through social media and microblogging sites, like Twitter, or Google+
Hashtags are traditionally used in social media to group keywords, phrases or messages so that people can search for the #hashtag and get access to all relevant messages that contain this #tag
Twitter is very popular site that uses #hashtags for to ‘tag’ onto trending conversations and therefore increase exposure of your business.
An example of a post with a #hashtag:
BrighterDirections @brighteridea is a complete #marketing agency helping organisations access the expertise to grow through outsourced solutions
Or like this if you are wanting to ‘tag’ onto a wider topic:
@brighteridea The #uksnow is causing distruption for businesses throughout the UK as road conditions worsen, updates here: www.brighterdirections.co.uk
