With over 48 million users, Pinterest is one of the hottest top new online social networks. Yet, many business owners are still unsure about it. Pinterest is seen to be a scrapbook or pin board for saving images and links, but in reality for a business it’s much more than that.
Pinterest allows you to ‘pin’ websites and images that you like and want to refer back to at a later date, allowing you to create categories that organise your saved posts.
In my opinion, Pinterest is virtually built for businesses – particularly product based businesses and great for image based businesses like Hotels, Shops and Food outlets.
Here are our top tips when creating your Pinterest account:
- Before connecting with people make sure you create at least 3 or 4 boards/ categories first so that your profile has some content on
- Your boards have a ‘shelf life’ so make sure that your pins are interactive as the more popular and interactive they are the longer they stay on peoples news feed
- When uploading images you can also attach a relevant web address with it ideally to a suitable page on your website ( but avoid doing this on every picture as it will cause spamming)
- When you have set up your account start commenting and liking the most popular pins – as this helps ‘get you out there’ and shows that you are interested with the same things.
