One of the biggest concerns raised by SME businesses that we deal with is ‘How do I find time to update my accounts and utlise the platforms effectively?’
Well have you ever heard the saying “Things worth doing are worth doing well?”
This is so very true and in the case of Social Media, is the only way for your business.
Why bother investing in your social media activity at all, if it is just going to be another time-wasting excersise for you, or worse still, for it to become a drain on your normal business activity.
Hopefully, these tips will help you on your way to becoming more successful through your Social Media activity:
Be Targeted
This may sound very simple but we’ve met thousands of businesses that are on Facebook because they ‘think they should’ regardless of whether Facebook is relevant to their business, or if their potential customers are even on there!
Make sure the Social Media sites that you engage in are relevant to your target market – Do your homework
Be Relevant
Second to being on the wrong sites for your business is content. Far too many businesses are time-wasting on the likes of Twitter and Facebook by babbling on about irrelevant and pointless items of conversation simply to fill the feed.
Instead look at your market, what are they interested in? What would be beneficial for them to hear about, industry news, product information, the latest trends – All things that we search for and ‘pull us into the conversation’ if your posts aren’t doing that, then you seriously need to rethink your activity and start making it fun and exciting so people want to ‘tune in’
Don’t Automate
This is a real problem in our industry now with the likes of great ‘social media management tools’ – Don’t get me wrong, I love platforms that assist in the commercial development and make things easier but they are never a replacement for the ‘real thing’
Far too many use the likes of Hootsuite or Tweetdeck to automate posts to save time, but what this really does is close the door on people wanting to engage..
Just think, how would you feel if you saw a post, immediately responded with a query to then have to wait hours for a reply again… Would you understand they were ‘out the office’ and therefore didn’t see, or would you feel undervalued?
